Hygienists

Dental hygienists are specifically trained to work along side the dentist and provide an important role in dental health care.

As well as professionally cleaning the teeth (normally called a scale & polish) to remove plaque (sticky coating on the teeth) and calculus (hard deposits), the hygienist can also give you advise on a number of topics to help you keep your mouth as healthy as possible, such as:

  • The treatment of periodontal disease (gum disease).
  • How best to look after the health of your teeth and gums.
  • Brushing technique and type of toothbrush to use.
  • Best accessories to use (floss/tape/interdental brushes) and how to use them.
  • Oral health issues such as: diet, smoking, gum disease, gingivitis and their treatments.
